These have the Aris Allen Raw Sole - (see below) flexible hard leather with a raw, unfinished surface on both sole & heel just like 40's dance shoes. Designed with the swing dancer in mind.

The footbed is lined with foam so it's much more comfortable than ordinary shoes.
Sole is flexible to help you feel the floor.
These are designed for the intermediate / advanced swing dancer - but they're also great as a second pair for beginners... the "fastness" of the sole forces you to "find your center".
Loafers are a traditional Shag Dance Shoe - but are also worn by Balboa dancers... Makes a great swing dance shoe because you can be out on the floor in seconds after you reach the studio (how's that for swingaholic logic?).
SIZING TIPS:
Men: We're finding these run about a half size small... (so if you're a 10 order 10.5, etc.)
Women: To estimate what
you size should get in these shoes: These fit differently than
the Men's Captoes - (they are very roomy) - go down one and one
half sizes: Women's 7 = Men's 5.5, 7.5 = Men's 6, 8 = 6.5, 8.5 = 7, 9 = 7.5, 9.5 = 8, 10 = 8.5, etc.
(don't worry if you are size 5-6.5 - women's loafers are on the
way - about 4-5 months)

The Aris Allen Raw
Sole
is made from hard leather with a raw finish. It feels like velvet
and acts a lot like Chrome Leather (suede) - it allows you to
spin and slide, and still control the floor.
NOTE: If you find the sole has picked up dirt from the floor and is slowing down, just shuffle your feet on the sidewalk once or twice to refresh it.
Heel is shown at
right - note the rubber on top of the leather bottom for shock
absorption.
