This is a danceable version of the classic tennis sneaker of the last century. So now you can look like you're wearing sneakers without the knee-injuring potential that dancing on rubber soles carries.
This version of the Aris Allen Classic Canvas Dance Sneaker has been redesigned to make it cuter with a shorter vamp and lower sides - however, this redesign has made it a problem for people with narrow heels... see below:
Sizing Information:
These dance sneakers run true to size - but if you're between sizes you'll probably do best in the smaller of the two.
Important:
These will probably not fit if you have narrow feet because they run very wide in the heel.
Fitting the Heel:
40% of our test group said that they felt more secure with heel grips in the
back of the shoe. So we're including free color matching heel grips with every pair (see photo). But please don't purchase them if you have a narrow heel. Even with heel grips they probably will not stay on your feet when you're dancing.
Note:
If you own last year's model of this style (which ran 1/2 size large) then
you'll want a half size smaller.
For Men:
If you wear 8.5 or smaller you can easily wear these. Just add 1.5 to your men's size and that's the size you should fit (i.e.: men's size 7 + 1.5 = size women's 8.5 in this style).
About the Suede Leather Soles:
These women's white and black canvas dancing sneakers are made with Chrome Suede Leather Soles (suede tanned with chromium salts) which are wonderful to dance on but require occasional upkeep (it's usually a problem with catching the edge on a piece of hardwood that is sticking up on the dance floor).
If you need to re-glue the chrome leather many people just use crazy glue gel. We have also found that commercially produced shoe repair glue (available from the shoe repair shop in your local mall) works great.
You're not supposed to wear chrome leather soles outside - but every swing dancer knows that you can make suede soles faster by wearing them everywhere to get them dirty, then dance in them until they're shiny on the bottom.
If you prefer them less zippy you can dull the "mirror finish" they can get by roughing them up with a wire brush periodically. Just remember that when they get wet in the rain they won't spin very easily (conversely - if they're too slippery just spill your drink on the floor and step in it!).
The insole is removable so you can add your own or wear them with orthotics.
